Yoga for a Better Birth and Postpartum
Pregnancy and the months following birth are periods of great energy transformation, release, and regeneration. And, there’s no better tool for understanding and embracing this vast energy exchange that is a human body making and nurturing another human body than Kundalini Yoga and it’s sister Hatha Yoga.
Known as “the yoga of awareness,” Kundalini is the mother of all other yoga forms. It is eastern wisdom and medicine at its best. Hatha Yoga incorporates the practice of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) to bring peace to the mind. In Hatha we move through postures in a gentle, slow, relaxed manner. Poses are held longer — the perfect preparation for childbirth where “sitting comfortably with discomfort” is a crucial coping mechanism.
Each 75-minute class includes:
Warm up exercises
A 1-minute length of time for most poses to reinforce the truth that you can do anything for 1 minute — the average length of time for a labor contraction
Basic Hatha postures that open the hits, maintain muscle strength, and help learn to sit comfortably in discomfort
Basic Kundalini postures to encourage long inhale/longer exhale breathing that will allow your body to labor more easily and help you not fight against the working uterus
Deep relaxation session
Reference and visualization of the Chakra System, the eight energy centers of the body which are the foundation of eastern medicine. These visualizations are intended to help you connect with your body as it works though its labor.
Kundalini and Hatha yoga are practices focused on breath and using the breath to expand the mind, strengthen the body, and tap into the soul — all of which are necessary to pregnancy, during birth, and on the long road of parenthood.
These yoga modalities are for every woman in every phase of her life.
Classes are taught online, or in the privacy of your home. If it is in your home, you may invite any you’d like to join you.
